South Denmark Road Covered Bridge

South Denmark Road Covered Bridge carries light traffic over Mill Creek in Denmark Township near Jefferson and remains one of Ashtabula County’s 16 drivable covered bridges. Built in 1895 as a single-span Town truss, it exemplifies the lattice-based wooden design once common on rural roads. Although a newer crossing bypassed it in 1975, the bridge was kept in place and not abandoned. Its continued service, along with its modest rural proportions, reflects Ashtabula County’s unusual concentration of surviving covered bridges and a long local commitment to preserving them as working parts of the landscape.
