Nantucket National Wildlife Refuge is a 24-acre protected area at Great Point on the northeastern tip of Nantucket, established in 1973 for its role in migratory bird conservation. Though small and unstaffed, it provides important coastal habitat for migratory birds, including the federally listed piping plover and roseate tern, as well as the state-listed common tern and least tern. Gray and harbor seals are often seen there, while gulls sometimes put pressure on nesting shorebirds. Managed cooperatively with The Trustees of Reservations, the refuge adjoins other protected land at Great Point, an area also known for surfcasting, beaches, and Great Point Lighthouse tours.
