Cimarron Canyon State Park lies in northeastern New Mexico about 3 miles east of Eagle Nest within the Colin Neblett Wildlife Area. Extending for roughly 8 miles between Tolby Creek and Ute Park, it follows the Cimarron Canyon along the Cimarron River. The park is marked by the dramatic rock walls of the Palisades Sill, whose striking cliffs rise above the water and give the narrow canyon much of its scenic character. The area is especially known for trout fishing, with anglers using the Cimarron River and tributaries such as Clear Creek and Tolby Creek, making it a popular outdoor recreation destination.
