The Loyalsock Trail is a 59.2-mile linear hiking route in north-central Pennsylvania, running through rugged country largely within Loyalsock State Forest from Pennsylvania Route 87 to Mead Road near US Route 220. First laid out in 1951 by Explorer Scouts from Williamsport and later expanded, it is maintained by the Alpine Club of Williamsport. The trail follows high plateau land, stream-cut canyons, old forest roads, logging railroad grades, and part of the historic Towanda Path. Known for difficult terrain, waterfalls, vistas, and distinctive “LT” blazes, it also serves as the backbone of a larger trail system and is widely valued as one of Pennsylvania’s most beautiful and demanding backpacking trails.
