The Bijou Theatre has operated almost continuously on this site for more than 100 years. The original Bijou, constructed in 1910, was one of the earliest theaters in Vermont to show talkies. It was razed in 1937, and this building was erected as a larger, modern, and more glamorous replacement. Built in the Art Deco style, the original triangular marquee had enameled metal, colored light bulbs, and Bijou in red neon letters. In the mid-nineties, Bill and Cherie Jarvis purchased the Bijou, renovated it, and it reopened as a multiplex on June 21, 1996.
