First called Lake Fork, this area was homesteaded in 1905. Settlers platted sites for Mountain Home, Boneta, and Talmage, hauled water from the Lake Fork River, dug an irrigation canal, built homes, threshed their first crops of wheat with a flail for seed and flour, carried mail weekly from Duchesne, and opened a post office in Andrew Madsen's home in 1908. Mountain Home residents fired brick for a schoolhouse, where Margaret Moffitt was the teacher. The three towns were combined into Moonlake Ward on Aug. 27, 1972.
