Pumpelly Glacier
Nature
Pumpelly Glacier is in Glacier National Park, Montana, immediately northeast of Blackfoot Mountain at roughly 8,500 to 8,000 feet, just west of the Continental Divide. Beside Pumpkin Glacier, the two ice masses are separated by crevasses. The glacier was named for Raphael Pumpelly, who first sighted it in 1883. By 2005, Pumpelly and neighboring Pumpkin Glacier together covered 310 acres, a 15 percent decrease in area since 1966.
