The Watchtower is a 2,791-metre summit in Jasper National Park's Maligne River valley, rising above Medicine Lake in the Maligne Range and visible from Maligne Lake Road. Morrison P. Bridgland named it in 1916, and the Geographical Names Board of Canada officially adopted the name in 1947. Its first recorded ascent came in 1951, when R.K. Irvin, J. Mowat, and R. Strong reached the top. Formed from Cambrian sedimentary rock later thrust upward during the Laramide orogeny, it reflects the Rockies' sharply uplifted landscape. Its slopes drain into Excelsior Creek and Watchtower Creek, tributaries of the Maligne River.
