The intersection of Grand River Avenue and Novi Road was the focus of the Novi community, with stores, churches, a school, a hotel, restaurants, village offices, and a library within walking distance. At the northwest corner, a series of general stores was later followed by hamburger restaurants; Matt Moeren operated a general store there from 1915 to 1953, and Bates Hamburgers purchased the site from Dave's Hamburgers in 1985. At the northeast corner, an early inn, including the Novi Hotel, a popular stagecoach inn, was followed by gas stations before Novi Town Center was established there; Leo Harrawood operated a gas and service station at that corner for many years. At the southeast corner, Charles E. Goodell's general store stood about 1900, and in 1929 it was replaced by the current brick building, later known as the Novi Inn through the 1980s and then occupied by various stores; it had been built to be a bank, but the bank never opened because of the Great Depression. Moeren's store had the township's first gas pump before the First World War, mounted on a wood platform and operated by hand.
