Poplar Point Light stands at the end of Poplar Point in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, marking the southern point of Wickford Harbor. Built in 1831 as a stone keeper’s dwelling joined to a wooden tower, it guided vessels into the harbor until it was deactivated in 1882 and replaced by Wickford Harbor Light. The property was sold at auction in 1894, and later private alterations changed its appearance from its service years. Despite those changes, it remains historically significant as the oldest surviving wooden lighthouse tower in the United States and the oldest lighthouse in Rhode Island still standing at its original location. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
