Mount Shuksan is a glaciated massif in North Cascades National Park, just east of Mount Baker in northern Washington, known for its ice-clad shape, prominent waterfalls, and deep geological history. Formed from Shuksan greenschist created when the Easton terrane collided with western North America about 120 million years ago, it is the eroded remnant of an ancient thrust plate. Sulphide Creek Falls and other glacier-fed cascades descend from its flanks, while views from the Mount Baker Highway, Artist Point, and Picture Lake have made it a famous regional landmark. The mountain also carries longstanding Nooksack and Lummi names and associations, and its climbing history reaches back at least to the late nineteenth century.
