The Vermillion County Indiana War Memorial is dedicated to all veterans in war and peacetime, to women who served in the Armed Forces, and to the nurses who helped men come home. It honors service in conflicts ranging from the Revolutionary War of 1776 - 1783, in which independence was won, through the Indian Wars, the undeclared war with France of 1798 - 1800, the Barbary War of 1801 - 1816, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War, the First Sioux War, the Spanish-American War, the Philipine Insurrection, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Marines killed in Beirut, and all those killed by terrorism. It also records the number of people from Vermillion County who served in World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, and includes statistics on deaths, prisoners of war, and missing in action from the Revolutionary War through the Vietnam War.
