Bath County, Kentucky, in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, was formed in 1811 and includes many historic homes, churches, iron furnaces, and cemeteries across the countryside. Its county seat, Owingsville, has a commercial district listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and notable historic structures there include the Bath County Courthouse, constructed in 1866, and the Owings House, built from 1811 to 1814 and home to the Owingsville Banking Company since 1893. Owingsville is also known for its Farmers Market and annual horse shows, including the Owingsville Lions Club Horse Show and the Spotted Saddle Horse Show. Bath County is home to Cave Run Lake, an 8,270 acre lake near Slat Lick known as one of the best muskee fishing lakes in the United States, where camping, boating, swimming, and fishing are popular.
