Goose Eye Mountain, also called Mt. Goose High, is a prominent peak in western Maine near the New Hampshire border and the second-highest summit in the rugged Mahoosuc Range of the White Mountains. Its slopes drain into branches of the Androscoggin River system, with runoff flowing by different brooks and streams before reaching Merrymeeting Bay and the Gulf of Maine. Beyond its physical setting, the mountain is a well-known hiking destination. The Appalachian Trail meets the Goose Eye Trail along the summit ridge and continues to the mountain’s North Peak, while the Goose Eye Trail, Wright Trail, and Mahoosuc Trail make the area especially popular for summer and fall hikes.
