Mount Success, a 3,565-foot peak in New Hampshire’s Mahoosuc Range near the Maine line, is crossed by the Mahoosuc Trail on the Appalachian Trail and can also be reached by the Success Trail. Once known as Ingalls Mountain, it was renamed in 1936 to avoid confusion with nearby Mount Ingalls in Shelburne. The mountain lies entirely within the Androscoggin River watershed, with its slopes draining through Horne Brook and Lary Brook tributaries. It is also remembered for a 1954 air crash near the summit, when Northeast Airlines Flight 792 went down in poor visibility; all seven aboard survived the impact, but two died before rescuers arrived.
