Valley of the Gods is a scenic sandstone basin in southeastern Utah near Mexican Hat, north of Monument Valley across the San Juan River. Known for tall reddish-brown mesas, buttes, towers, and mushroom-shaped rocks, it preserves erosional remnants of an ancient desert landscape. A 17-mile gravel loop winds through the formations, making the area as notable for driving as for sightseeing, though some stretches are steep and rough. Included in Bears Ears National Monument in 2016 and excluded in 2017, it nonetheless remained protected public land under Bureau of Land Management administration. The valley stays undeveloped, with dispersed camping but no campfires, fees, or visitor services.
