Franklin Butte is a 5,179-foot sandstone summit in the Valley of the Gods of southeastern Utah, west of Bluff, rising nearly 400 feet in just 0.1 mile and creating a strikingly abrupt profile. Located on Bureau of Land Management land near Valley of the Gods Road, its runoff drains through Lime Creek toward the San Juan River. The butte is shaped by geology: softer Halgaito Formation below and harder Cedar Mesa Sandstone above, with the valley floor formed by the older Honaker Trail Formation. Its summit was first climbed in 1990 by John Middendorf and Melissa Wruck, and the area has a cold semi-arid desert climate.
