Lady in the Bathtub is a striking 5,552-foot rock pillar in Utah’s Valley of the Gods, west of Bluff, rising about 550 feet above the desert floor in just 0.2 mile. Its descriptive name, officially adopted in 1988, reflects the pillar’s sculpted outline. The formation is shaped by contrasting layers of the Cutler Formation, with the softer Halgaito Formation below and harder Cedar Mesa Sandstone above, a combination that helps create the valley’s isolated buttes. Its sandstone cap preserves early Permian coastal dune deposits from about 270 to 300 million years ago. The summit was first climbed on September 26, 1978, by George Hurley and Bill Forrest.
