Bell Butte is a prominent rock pillar in the Valley of the Gods in southeastern Utah, west of Bluff on Bureau of Land Management land reached from Highway 261. Its bell-like shape gave rise to its officially recognized name. The butte rises sharply from the surrounding valley, with its summit standing about 450 feet above the valley floor within a very short distance, creating a steep and abrupt profile. Runoff drains toward the San Juan River by way of Lime Creek. Geologically, the butte consists of the early Permian Halgaito Formation, while the valley floor below is formed by the Honaker Trail Formation, in a cold semi-arid desert setting.
