Modoc Point is a cliff on the east shore of Upper Klamath Lake in southern Oregon, part of the larger escarpment called Modoc Rim or Modoc Ridge. Named for the Modoc people, it lay within the Klamath Reservation after the 1864 treaty that assigned this area to them. Captain Jack and his band lived there from December 31, 1869, to April 26, 1870, before leaving amid continued harassment by the Klamath and returning south to their traditional homeland on the Lost River in present-day California, shortly before the Modoc War of 1872 to 1873. The point also figures in Klamath tradition under the names Kiuti, Muyant, and Nilakla.
