Nature
Bald Peak State Scenic Viewpoint is a small Oregon state park atop Bald Peak in the Chehalem Mountains, the highest point in the range at 1,629 feet. Its significance rests in sweeping views across the Willamette Valley and, in clear weather, to major Cascade peaks including Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, Mount Jefferson, Mount Adams, and Mount Rainier. Oregon acquired the land in 1931 to create a park for the surrounding area, and during the Great Depression the Civilian Conservation Corps built many of its basic facilities. The site also became a local gathering place for annual Easter services and survived a proposed closure during a 1996 budget crisis.
