Nature
Bald Peak is the highest point in Oregon’s Chehalem Mountains and the highest point in the Willamette Valley, rising 1,624 feet near the Yamhill-Washington county line. A 26-acre state park, Bald Peak State Scenic Viewpoint, occupies its summit. The Chehalem Mountains are a single land mass uplifted by tectonic forces, with Bald Peak at the range’s top. Its importance comes from standing above the broad valley floor that shapes much of northwestern Oregon. In 2020, the Chehalem Mountain-Bald Peak fire burned there from September 8 to September 14, scorching about 875 acres after authorities said a campfire on private property caused it.
