Bear Mountain is a 6,572-foot summit in northern Arizona, about eight miles northwest of Sedona in the Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness on Coconino National Forest land. Known for its steep local relief, it rises about 1,570 feet above Boynton Canyon in only half a mile, giving it a striking presence in the surrounding red rock landscape. Its pale Coconino Sandstone sits atop the reddish Schnebly Hill Formation, reflecting the layered geology of the Sedona area. Runoff drains to the Oak Creek watershed, and the mountain lies in a temperate semi-arid climate shaped in late summer by monsoon rain and lightning.
