Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness is a 47,195-acre protected area in Arizona’s Coconino National Forest, where red rock formations, deep canyons, and the Mogollon Rim create a dramatic landscape spanning desert lowlands to the high rims of Secret Mountain and Wilson Mountain. Its varied elevations support diverse plants and wildlife, including elk, deer, javelina, coyote, mountain lion, and black bear. Human history is also embedded here through petroglyphs, abandoned cliff dwellings, and trails that began as ranching routes in the 1880s and were later rebuilt by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Today it remains a major destination for hiking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, photography, and swimming.
