Shawvers Run Wilderness is a 5,784-acre protected wilderness in Virginia within the Jefferson National Forest, on the western slope of Potts Mountain near Potts Creek. Preserved under the Eastern Wilderness Act as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System, it includes rugged terrain shaped by Potts Mountain’s ridge, western-draining streams such as Shawvers Run and Valley Branch, and elevations from about 2,000 to 3,700 feet. Its forests range from oak-hickory woods to streamside poplar, birch, hemlock, and white pine. The area also includes karst features and important caves, supports native brook trout, helps protect Potts Creek’s watershed, and remains lightly accessed to preserve its wilderness character.
