The Wilmington Veterans Monument honors Wilmington residents who offered their lives in humanity’s defense in the War of the Nations from 1914 to 1918 and remembers those marked by gold stars who gave their last full measure of devotion. It also names Wilmington men who served in the Navy and preserves a roll of the town’s heroes of the Civil War. In addition, it identifies former Wilmington residents mentioned in General Stark’s official report as being in Colonel William Williams’ regiment at the Battle of Bennington during the Revolutionary War. The monument was dedicated in 1924.
