Nature
Hogback Mountain in Marlboro, southern Vermont, rises to 2,409 feet and is noted for wide views from Vermont Route 9. Nearby, across the road on Mount Olga, the Hogback Mountain Ski Area operated from 1946 to 1986 using natural snow and T-bars, becoming a local institution where many area children learned to ski through a free weekly program for Marlboro School students. After closing because of insurance costs, about 590 acres were acquired and given to the town as conservation land. Today, remnants of the ski area remain, and volunteers help keep trails open for year-round recreation.
