Baldpate Mountain
Nature
Baldpate Mountain is a two-peaked mountain in western Maine near Grafton Notch, with East Peak rising to 3,815 feet and West Peak to 3,662 feet. Surrounded by other notable mountains including Surplus, Black, Mount Hittie, and Old Speck across the notch, it stands within the Androscoggin River watershed, with runoff reaching the Gulf of Maine by several river systems. Baldpate is especially significant as part of the Appalachian Trail, which crosses both summits after leaving Grafton Notch and continues toward Surplus Mountain, making Baldpate one of the principal high points along this section of the trail in Maine.
