Painted Lady is a prominent twelve-thousand-foot summit in California’s Kings Canyon National Park, just west of the Sierra Nevada crest near Rae Lakes and Glen Pass. Rising steeply above the surrounding high country, it gains 1,580 feet over Rae Lakes in less than half a mile on its north side, making its local relief especially striking. Water from the mountain drains into Rae Lakes, and its alpine climate is shaped by Pacific weather systems lifted over the Sierra, bringing rain and snow. Reached from the John Muir Trail near Glen Pass, the peak’s first recorded ascent came in 1931 by Robert Owen.
