Engle Peak
Nature
Engle Peak is a 7,583-foot mountain in Montana’s Cabinet Mountains, near Noxon along the edge of the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness on Kaniksu National Forest land. Rising sharply above Engle Lake, it has steep relief and sends runoff into creeks within the Clark Fork River watershed. The mountain lies in a subarctic climate with long, very cold winters and cool to mild summers. Its name reflects local pioneer and fire history: Engle Lake honors homesteader Isaac Engle, and the peak honors Roy Engle of Noxon, who was credited with saving 25 crewmembers during a 1910 forest fire. The summit is now reached by the Engle Peak Trail.
