Saint Paul Peak is a prominent 7,714-foot summit in northwestern Montana’s Cabinet Mountains Wilderness, about 21 miles south-southwest of Libby. West of the Continental Divide on Kaniksu National Forest land, it ranks among the highest points in both the Cabinet Mountains and Sanders County. Its most dramatic feature is the steep rise of roughly 3,000 feet above nearby Saint Paul Lake within just one mile. Water from the mountain feeds tributaries of the Clark Fork River. Its name, along with nearby Chicago Peak and Milwaukee Pass, reflects the region’s railroad heritage. In a subarctic climate, it remains a striking wilderness summit.
