Middle Peak
Nature
Middle Peak is a 13,306-foot summit in Colorado’s San Miguel Mountains, within the Rocky Mountains and the Lizard Head Wilderness west-southwest of Telluride. Set on a drainage divide, it marks a boundary between watersheds, counties, and national forest lands, giving it an important geographic role in the rugged high country. The mountain is recognized as a high and prominent summit in its range. It has also been known historically as Dolores Peak, reflecting a local uncertainty over the two neighboring summits on the same divide, since nearby Dolores Peak may be the higher and more topographically prominent peak.
