Huron Peak is a 14,004.1-foot mountain in Colorado’s Sawatch Range, within the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness of San Isabel National Forest, west-northwest of Buena Vista. Deep cols separate it from nearby summits, giving it strong topographic prominence, and the Three Apostles rise to its south. Named for the Huron Indians, the Wendat people, it is a popular climbing objective because its easiest route is Class 2, making it relatively accessible for experienced hikers and climbers. Its alpine subarctic climate brings snowy winters, cool to warm summers, and year-round precipitation. On July 9, 1994, it was also the site of a fatal Flight for Life rescue helicopter crash.
