Missouri Mountain is a 14,069.2-foot summit in Colorado’s Sawatch Range, within the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness of San Isabel National Forest and northwest of Buena Vista. One of Colorado’s fourteeners, it rises above 14,000 feet in a range noted for broad alpine terrain. Elkhead Pass, at 13,220 feet, separates it from Mount Belford and forms the saddle between the peaks. The standard ascent is a Class 2 route, non-technical by mountaineering standards but still a demanding high-altitude climb. The mountain is especially valued as part of a popular group of Sawatch summits, known for their elevation, open views, and standing among Colorado’s notable high peaks.
