Giant Mountain, or Giant of the Valley, is a prominent Adirondack summit near Keene in northeastern New York, rising 4,627 feet as the state’s twelfth-highest peak and one of the 46 High Peaks. Its towering position above Pleasant Valley gave it its name, and it holds an important place in Adirondack climbing history: Charles Brodhead’s survey party made the first recorded ascent of any Adirondack High Peak on June 2, 1797, and Orson Schofield Phelps and his son Ed later cut the first hiking trail in 1866. Known for sweeping views, dramatic slides, and varied routes, it remains one of the region’s most celebrated climbs.
