Dial Mountain, in Essex County in New York's Adirondacks, is part of the Colvin Range and is flanked to the southwest by Nippletop. It lies within the Lake Champlain watershed, connecting it to a drainage system that extends north through the Richelieu and Saint Lawrence rivers to the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. Its west side drains through Gill Brook to the East Branch of the Ausable River, while its southeast and northeast slopes drain by way of the North Fork of the Boquet River, including Gravestone Brook. The mountain is also counted among the Adirondack High Peaks and in the Adirondack Forty-Sixers tradition.
