Sharks Nose is a 12,234-foot mountain in Wyoming’s southern Wind River Range, standing on the Continental Divide along the west side of the Cirque of the Towers between Block Tower and Overhanging Tower. Set amid some of the range’s most dramatic granite terrain, it rises in a landscape of steep rock and alpine conditions long associated with technical climbing. The surrounding ground can involve serious class 4 and class 5 terrain where falls may be fatal. Travel here also carries broader backcountry risks, including bears, bugs, wildfires, difficult snow, cold nights, and the wider range’s history of severe accidents from falls and rockfall.
