Rinard Covered Bridge in Ludlow Township near Marietta, Ohio, carried County Road 406 over the Little Muskingum River and was also known as Hendershott's Ford Bridge. Built in 1876 by the Smith Bridge Company of Toledo, it used a Smith truss design associated with H. H. Townsend and reflected Ohio's 19th-century tradition of covered rural bridges built to protect timber trusses from weather. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, it was destroyed by a flash flood on September 18, 2004, then rebuilt in 2006. The reconstructed bridge remains an important part of Washington County's historic covered-bridge landscape and has been documented by the Historic American Engineering Record.
