Torrey Peak is a 12,181-foot mountain in Wyoming’s northern Wind River Range, within Shoshone National Forest near the southern end of Upper Ross Lake. It rises in a high, rugged alpine landscape where conditions can shift rapidly. Across the surrounding range, hazards include bears, insects, wildfires, snow, and cold nighttime temperatures. Steep terrain and falling rock have also caused serious accidents and deaths over the years, highlighting the demanding and sometimes dangerous nature of the environment around peaks like Torrey Peak.
