American Airlines Flight 77, a Boeing 757, took off at 8:20 a.m. from Washington's Dulles International Airport en route to Los Angeles with 64 people on board. At 9:37 a.m., it crashed into the Pentagon, killing all on board and another 125 people in the building. The Pentagon bore the emblems of the United States Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard, and the dead are remembered for their sacrifice on that day as America and the world continue to confront global terrorism and those who seek to destroy freedom.
