The one-room Corner School, established at “Codfish Corners,” operated from 1871 to 1951 for grades 1 through 8. Before it, G.V. Wilson’s blacksmith shop stood here from 1860 to 1869 and the I.H. Archer Store from 1869 to 1874. Granville once had 10 school districts, each with a multi-grade schoolhouse, and the Corner School opened at the population apex to serve Granville’s upper village and neighboring hill farms. Children studied reading, spelling, cursive writing, arithmetic and algebra, natural philosophy and science, and US and world geography. After the school closed, the building became the Free Library, and in 2021, 150 years after it first opened, it was dedicated as the Granville Community Resource Center.
