Originally settled as Paineburgh and named for the many members of the Paine family who lived there, this section of Foxborough developed a strong sense of community with its own elementary school, chapel, railroad station, and post office. In 1888, railroad officials requested that the depot's name be changed to avoid confusion with similar names, and the post office name was changed as well. Improvements in local transportation led to a decline in passenger rail service, the depot was removed, and mail service was transferred to the central district in 1906.
