Thatchtop is a 12,668-foot mountain in Rocky Mountain National Park in northern Colorado, rising above Glacier Gorge in a high alpine setting near the Continental Divide and southwest of Estes Park. Its summit stands out for its steep local relief, climbing 2,670 feet above the gorge in less than a mile while keeping a broad, rooflike shape. Water from its slopes feeds tributaries of Glacier Creek and ultimately the Big Thompson River. Its descriptive name refers to both mountain form and matted groundcover; the Arapaho called it Buffalo Climb. The name was officially adopted in 1932, though it had appeared in print by 1911.
