B-7 Pillar is an 8,716-foot mountain in Glacier National Park’s Lewis Range in Montana, just northeast of Iceberg Peak and east of the Continental Divide. Like many peaks in Glacier, it is made of sedimentary rock laid down in ancient shallow seas from the Precambrian through the Jurassic. Its larger geologic setting reflects movement along the Lewis Overthrust fault beginning about 170 million years ago, when an immense slab of older Precambrian rock was pushed over younger Cretaceous rock. The mountain stands in an alpine subarctic climate marked by long, cold, snowy winters, short cool-to-warm summers, and at times dangerously low temperatures and wind chills.
