Monkhead is a 3,250-metre mountain at the south end of Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park, on the far northwest edge of the Brazeau Icefield in Alberta’s Canadian Rockies. Named for its hood-like profile by the Alpine Club of Canada and officially adopted in 1946, it was first recorded as climbed in 1950 by Mr. and Mrs. Rex Gibson with D. LaChapelle and E. LaChapelle. The peak is especially striking for rising about 1,500 metres in less than 2 kilometres above the lake, and it is well known from classic views of Spirit Island across Maligne Lake.
