Bethel Baptist Church was the first church in the county. It was organized by Thomas Rock, Milton McQueen, and Mrs. Mary Parsons, and its first pastor was the Rev. J.B. Masterson. The courthouse was used for worship until the church was built in 1852. The last of the old structure was dismantled in 1957, and the original bell is now mounted here.
