Mount Columbia is a 14,072.6-foot peak in Colorado’s Collegiate Peaks, within the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains and the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness of San Isabel National Forest. One of the state’s fourteeners, it is part of a group of summits named for universities, including Mount Harvard, Mount Yale, Mount Princeton, and Mount Oxford. Roger W. Toll named it for Columbia University, specifically honoring that school’s 1878 rowing victory at the Henley Royal Regatta. The mountain later became known for erosion along an old user-made ascent path, and in 2021 a new trail on its west slopes was completed to improve access and reduce damage.
