The Collegiate Peaks, also known as the Collegiate Range, form part of the Sawatch Range in central Colorado within the Rocky Mountains. This group includes some of the highest mountains in the range, and streams on their eastern slopes feed the headwaters of the Arkansas River. Their modern name reflects the fact that several peaks were named for prominent universities. In the Arapaho language, the range was called hiwoxuu hookuhu'ee, meaning the Elk's Head.
