Mount Grace State Forest in Warwick, Massachusetts, is a public forest centered on Mount Grace, one of the highest points in eastern Massachusetts. Local tradition links the mountain’s name to King Philip’s War through Mary Rowlandson’s infant daughter, giving the site a personal place in regional colonial history. After the mountain was largely deforested by around 1900, conservation advocates helped secure state purchase in 1920. Recreational development began in 1930 and expanded with Civilian Conservation Corps work, while a 1939 fire lookout tower became a prominent summit feature. Today the forest combines protected landscape with year-round recreation and part of the New England National Scenic Trail.
