Box Elder Peak is an 11,101-foot summit in Utah County, about 21 miles southeast of downtown Salt Lake City, in the Lone Peak Wilderness of the Wasatch Range. Composed of limestone, quartzite, and shale, it rises steeply above nearby terrain, with nearly 4,900 feet of relief above American Fork Canyon in just 2.5 miles. Water from its east slope flows to the American Fork River and from its west slope to Dry Creek, with both ultimately reaching Utah Lake. A climb from Dry Creek Canyon covers about nine miles and gains roughly 5,400 feet, making the ascent demanding. Its name is officially recognized by the United States Board on Geographic Names.
